Those new accounts

Looks like you have a lot of banning to do. --Ciwey 23:05, 28 November 2008 (EST)

  • Thanks for bringing that to my attention! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 23:08, 28 November 2008 (EST)
    • There's a bunch more to block now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:43, 28 November 2008 (EST)
      • Isn't there a IP ban for cases like this? --Piemanmoo 23:47, 28 November 2008 (EST)
        • Admin does the IP bans. I'm not quite sure how. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 23:48, 28 November 2008 (EST)
          • This is bullshit. It's obviously one of those new members that have been sprouting on the wiki with their stupid subpages.--Citizen 00:33, 29 November 2008 (EST)
          • If you're interested in learning about IP blocking, this may help you. IP banning is part of the Special:BlockIP form which only administrators can view, so I'm not sure how Admin has configured it here, but I do know the default allows you to leave a checkmark that blocks the last ip of a blocked username and autoblocks any subsequent IPs the user tries to edit from. Also, there's normally a link at the bottom to the other special pages that show the history of what is blocked and why.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:52, 29 November 2008 (EST)
            • Yeah, I know how to do IP blocking...I don't know how to find out the IP address. Once I have the address, I can block the IP no problem. I've done it in the past by using my wife's blog, which records all the IP addresses that visit the blog. However, TEN seems to have stopped visiting my wife's blog (thank goodness--she has nothing to do with stuff that happens on the wiki, and it's not fair for her--or my kids--to see the messages he's left there), so I can't figure out what IP he's coming from. Thanks, though. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 01:10, 29 November 2008 (EST)
              • Ah, I see. From what I can tell, then, only Admin can do the IP search and he does so by manually performing a scan on the database. However, there is also an extension Admin can add, called Extension:CheckUser, which will enable ip access to users he gives a special 'checkuser' permission. Perhaps you can ask if would consider adding it for you?--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:37, 29 November 2008 (EST)

Might legal action be in order if this keeps up? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:02, 1 December 2008 (EST)

  • Yes. Admin is looking into it. I believe he will be contacting the guy's provider. The idiot has used his school computer, too. Dumbass. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 00:04, 1 December 2008 (EST)
    • I'm working up an e-mail to Admin with a couple other suggestions to consider about this. I'll copy you, though have you already asked him about extension CheckUser?--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:40, 1 December 2008 (EST)
      • I'm not comfortable making that information available to others yet. He's using some proxies so it wouldn't be terribly effective in this case anyway. If this changes I'll consider the extension. (Admin 00:45, 1 December 2008 (EST))
        • Ok, e-mail sent, subject "HeroesWiki user creation". Have a good night.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:35, 1 December 2008 (EST)

Proxies

Is there anyway to block proxy access to the site? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 07:34, 1 December 2008 (EST)

  • Dunno. I'm sure if there is, Admin will look into it. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 09:55, 1 December 2008 (EST)
    • You can block the IP's of the proxies used, but then depending on where the proxy program is hosted, you could also be blocking other people's valid use of the site. That's why IP blocking is sometimes a bit tricky.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:02, 1 December 2008 (EST)
      • Is there anyway to make sure the site is accessible only via a fix IP and not by a proxy? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:53, 1 December 2008 (EST)
        • Many ISP's also use dynamic IP's for their customers, so it isn't that easy. If you're interested in learning more about proxies, see here.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:24, 1 December 2008 (EST)

Episode Talk: Eclipse 2

Baldbobbo deleted the talk page for Eclipse 2 at some point last week, and no one in their right mind is going to recreate a topic deleted by a mod. As a result, nothing is happening on the topic. Perhaps you could create it?--Falcomadol 22:02, 1 December 2008 (EST)

  • Nevermind, someone broke what would be taboo for me :)--Falcomadol 22:05, 1 December 2008 (EST)

Kristin

  • Hah. Kristin called Sam and Frack "a walking Heroes Wiki of storyline trivia". :) (Admin 01:52, 2 December 2008 (EST))
    • Love it! -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 01:52, 2 December 2008 (EST)
      • Awesome, a Heroes Interactive ref and a Kristin E-Online ref all in the same night. Great! :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:02, 2 December 2008 (EST)
        • Oh, very cool. I don't usually follow the Heroes Interactive so I didn't see it until you pointed it out. (Admin 02:05, 2 December 2008 (EST))

Noah's Brother

I made my own page on Noah Bennet's brother and it has got my name before it! But can you just scale the image down a bit please? Cheers.  :) Noah Bennet And The Whale 13:09, 2 December 2008

DMB shows

It looks like he definitely has both shows, but I wanted to make sure about the Newport News/Va. Beach show before proceeding. Looking at the list of shows from 2003, was it the one at Old Dominion University on 3-26-03 you were looking for? --Stevehim 13:42, 2 December 2008 (EST)

South Park Heroes

Hi I Have This Image I Would Like To Put It On The South Park Heroes Page. Here It Is... Gabriel Bishop 16:55, 2 December 2008

  • I think we generally add images of one character at a time. Perhaps you could break the image into several images? I don't personally have any objections to the image, but I don't have a whole lot invested in that fan creation page. I would take it to the talk page and ask if anybody has any objections there. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 17:04, 2 December 2008 (EST)

Deleted Scenes

  • Hey Ryan, I created a page for the deleted scenes of heroes, but i dunno where exactly to place it... User:NiveKJ13/Deleted Scenes
    • This better be accepted, I worked on it for like 2 hours, lol XD and by the way, can you somehow help me improve it, it looks kinda messy...tnx --NiveKJ13 17:59, 2 December 2008 (EST)
      • I don't really like having acceptance demanded of me, so I sure hope you're saying that lightly or jokingly. In any case, a brief summary of deleted scenes can go on episode pages (see Episode:Fallout#Deleted Scenes). More detailed information can go on the DVD pages (see Heroes: The Complete Second Season (DVD)#Deleted_Scenes. Pertinent information can go in the notes of appropriate pages (see D.L. Hawkins#Notes). -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 18:26, 2 December 2008 (EST)
      • I was jokin man, lol XD the "this better be accepted" is clearly a joke...lolz...nevermind about it...
        • No worries. It's sometimes hard to tell a person's tone when it's read on the internet. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 19:10, 2 December 2008 (EST)
        • I really dont get it, cant we just make a new page for Deleted scenes? like that one that I did?....--NiveKJ13 18:51, 2 December 2008 (EST)
          • I'm not a big fan of it personally, if you're asking my opinion. I'd rather include the information on the DVD pages. But you can take it to the talk pages (like here). Incidentally, there was an old discussion about this when the first DVD came out, which you can read here. There's a newer, more definitive discussion after the second DVD came out, which you can read here. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 19:09, 2 December 2008 (EST)

Samedi's assignment tracker file

can you give me the password of Samedi's assignement tracker, please?

where do you get Samedi's assignement tracker? Jethap 09:29, 3 December 2008

  • I would if I could, but I don't have the password. I simply changed the URL to get the image. His file will be at C010. The password will probably be released next week. Sorry! -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 07:56, 3 December 2008 (EST)

A Favour

Without Banning Him Can You Tell Noah Bennet And The Whale To Stop Editing My Page Negatively. We Edit Eachother's Pages But He Is Starting to Be Negative. Gabriel Bishop 13:37, 3 December 2008

  • Have you told him? I don't see any messages on his talk page. I suggest you approach the subject first, otherwise he might not be aware that there is an issue. Then, if the issue persists, you can find an administrator to intervene...but an admin should really be more of a last resort. I also suggest that both of you stop editing each other's pages if there is a problem. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 15:12, 3 December 2008 (EST)
    • Thanks ryan.I dont about you in the states but in the uk there is a show called doctor who.I mader a page about him on here becuase he is in my series but used the page from wikipedia.could you help me sort it out? Gabriel Bishop 15:38, 3 December 2008 (EST)Gabriel Bishop
      • I've seen exactly one episode of Doctor Who. I loved it. I don't know much more about it. What kind of help are you looking for? -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 15:52, 3 December 2008 (EST)
        • Actually, looking at that page, you've got to take out all those red links. None of them are pages we need at Heroes Wiki. You've also linked to templates that we simply don't have here. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 15:56, 3 December 2008 (EST)
    • That's what you get for bringing your obsolete subpages and BS to this wiki. "We Edit Eachother's Pages But He Is Starting to Be Negative", listen to you, you sound like 'ef buddies.--Citizen 15:54, 3 December 2008 (EST)
      • Soz Guys.Oh and ryan you would love doctor who it's wicked.Did you know christopher ecclestone was the doctor?.oh and how do you become able to do interviews to cast members? i would realy wanna do 1.Gabriel Bishop 16:00, 3 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
        • I'm sure I would love it. Do you have a cast member that you want to approach about interviewing? You would have to have their contact information. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 16:12, 3 December 2008 (EST)
          • Thanks I Wanted To Talk To Either masi oka, zachary quinto or james kyson lee.? oh and is the new doctor page ok? Gabriel Bishop 16:15, 3 December 2008 (EST)Gabriel Bishop
            • Do you have their contact information? Yes the new page is better. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 16:17, 3 December 2008 (EST)
              • No How do i get it ?.and thanks Gabriel Bishop 16:21, 3 December 2008 (EST)Gabriel Bishop
                • Well, that's the tricky part, isn't it? If I had Masi Oka's contact information, I would have interviewed him myself a long time ago. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 16:22, 3 December 2008 (EST)
                  • Ha,Thanks anyway. gonna watch the eclipse part 2 tonight :).Oh What About James Kyson Lee, i Saw You Talked To Him.
                    • Yes, I did. He was very personable. I don't give out people's contact information, though. I find it in poor taste to give out personal information about people just because they are famous. Sorry! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 16:25, 3 December 2008 (EST)
                      • Nevermind lol, thanks for trying though, and oh do you like my recent creation's i like the army of nathan petrelli's grandad the best. Gabriel Bishop 16:27, 3 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

cast changes

hey, i know i don't really need your "permission", but do you think i should make this article an article in the mainspace? i think the design of it looks decent and it adds good information to the wiki. i won't take offense if you disagree though. thanks. - Tristan0709 23:24, 3 December 2008 (EST)

  • I think it's one of those great articles that has terrific and useful information, but doesn't really have a place on the wiki's main namespace. The information belongs in notes and such, but not on its own page. There's a bunch of those kind of pages, like User:Chrisyu357/comic, User:Level/Credits, User:Ryangibsonstewart/Meta, or User:SacValleyDweller/Release and Arc Order. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 23:53, 3 December 2008 (EST)
    • Yeah, i think you might be right. thanks anyway! - Tristan0709 00:03, 4 December 2008 (EST)
      • But please keep updating the page--I check it a lot when you edit it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 00:04, 4 December 2008 (EST)
        • Wow, thanks. I like the format of number three a lot better than one or two. Also, do you think I should leave Maya as a regular for the whole season so far? - Tristan0709 01:24, 4 December 2008 (EST)
          • Yeah. Contractually, she's still a principal cast member. (You can tell because she's credited first, with all the other regulars.) Usually an actor's contract is good for the whole season, whether they appear or not. I don't know if Heroes chose to do a volume-long contract or not...I guess we'll have to wait until January to find that out. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 01:35, 4 December 2008 (EST)
            • Yeah, it's safe to exclude say, Simone after Parasite, but it's harder with Maya. - Tristan0709 01:41, 4 December 2008 (EST)

The Eclipse Part 2: Character appearances

  • Hi, just wanna ask, where's the Characters Appearances Template in the episode The Eclipse, Part 2? --NiveKJ13 12:06, 4 December 2008 (EST)

      • OK, tnx, coz I just wanna help fill up some red links :) --NiveKJ13 18:38, 4 December 2008 (EST)

Another Favour

Thanks About that i forget about the name. Also I was thinking could we both do a interview to one of the stars.? and again thanks. Gabriel Bishop 12:26, 4 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

    • Okay do you think you can help me come up with some more top ten heroes moments.so far ive got peter blowing up,save the cheerleader, stop the virus, sylar regains his ability, the eclipse, arthur returns.any more you can help me come up with and if u helped with the page i would be realy grateful :) Gabriel Bishop 13:13, 4 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
      • I really liked when Noah shot Ivan Spektor, and I enjoyed when Noah got shot in the eye. I also thought Connie's death was pretty awesome, as was Hana's heroic death. Pretty much anything from Five Years Gone or Company Man could go on that list, too. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 15:14, 4 December 2008 (EST)

Ok Thanks i just realised i forgot about kaito giving baby claire. Gabriel Bishop 15:25, 4 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

Should we archive the iStorys in a Blog also?

I realize we'd pretty much be copy-pasting them, but if NBC decides in the future to remove them, then we'd have a backup archive. We would also have a searchable text location in one place, and not have to browse manually through the NBC pages. Thoughts? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/4/2008 12:38 (EST)

  • I don't see the harm in an archive. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 12:50, 4 December 2008 (EST)
    • OK, I'll put them up. May need you to come back after me, and do your dropdown box magic later. I'll add the link to the other blogs when I've got it up. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/4/2008 13:39 (EST)
      • Whew...this first one was a mess to do. I'm not convinced I like it at all, because of how the iStory series have alternate choices of how the story is presented. Initially, I just tried to write it with some goto-type comments, telling the reader which paragraphs to skip and where to pick back up with; but that looked really bad. Then I tried color-coding the text to make it easier to follow each alternative path. I don't think I like this approach much better. Take a look, and see if you have any better ideas of how to make it flow in a way that it is easy to follow and understand. http://heroes-transcripts-istory.blogspot.com. If we can't come up with a good presentation, maybe transcribing the iStory series may not be worth the trouble. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/4/2008 15:17 (EST)
        • I would think jumps to other blog entries might not be a bad idea...but maybe you're right, maybe it's not worth it. Besides, the summaries that MiamiVolts has been writing at Operation Bad Blood and Operation Splinter are terrific. Maybe that's all we need? I'll take a deeper look when I get home tonight. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 15:19, 4 December 2008 (EST)
          • Sounds good, I want to get around to starting the S3 epis, but not sure when...can't do them at work, they take too long. I think next, I'm gonna start doing all of the Sylar-related GNs, and some of the GNs that are more pertinant to the main, active episode storylines. I've done the last 11 current ones, and think that's a pretty fair start for getting this season going. Will wait on the iStory series until you have time to look into it, and see what you think tonight. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/4/2008 15:34 (EST)
            • Actually, I don't think it's worth it at all to do the iStory transcripts at this time. Maybe if we had a bigger team, more time, and more knowledge in how to make it "work"...but at this point, I just don't think it's worth it. Let's focus on the graphic novels. By the way, I have the original script for a few of them, like Road Kill. I'm not allowed to publish the original script, but I'll at least take the dialogue from them and post them. Gimme a few... -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 17:27, 4 December 2008 (EST)
              • Oh, never mind, it looks like you just did the Road Kill transcript. Don't worry about the scripts for Trust Issues, Part 1, Trust Issues, Part 2, Past Experience, War Buddies, Part 4, or War Buddies, Part 5. I have those original scripts, too, so you can save your time there... -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 17:30, 4 December 2008 (EST)
                • If you wanna send those that you have to my gmail account, I'll format them and add them in today; otherwise I think I'll add String Theory and Walls, Part 1 and Walls, Part 2 today. Since I am transcribing them by hand, and have done several of the most recent ones, I'm just gonna start picking the series I like best and transcribe them. 114 is still a long way to go, but if I can do 2 or 3 a day, they'll eventually get done. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/5/2008 11:26 (EST)
                  • I swore under penalty of death that I wouldn't let the original transcripts out, so I'll just take the text and format it myself. Maybe this weekend. By the way, you're doing a terrific job with the transcripts. They've very nice to have, and I've already started using the to search for things. It sure makes searching the Heroesverse a lot more comprehensive. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 15:10, 5 December 2008 (EST)
                    • There will come a day, when everything is finished and transcribed. The day following that day, a new blog will appear that will be all-inclusive of every transcription. That will allow the world to do full one-stop searching in one place. That will be real handy. I should get Walls 1 & 2 finished today. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/5/2008 15:31 (EST)

THE HERESY !

hi, how do i check my inbox and how i can contribute to fan creation using my user name..thanx ! Jayshizzo326 08:09, 6 December 2008

  • There is no inbox on a wiki--if somebody sends you a message, it will be at on your talk page, which you can find by clicking this link. What's great is that if anybody does send you a message, you'll get a big orange-yellow bar at the top of your screen alerting you to the message. Just click the link on that bar and it'll take you to the message on your page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 08:41, 6 December 2008 (EST)

Question about capitalization

What's the protocol for capitalizing the futures (eg - Explosion Future vs. Explosion future vs explosion future)? From looking at some of the edits, it seems that they are not capitalized except when headers or at the beginning of sentences, but they are proper nouns so should be capitalized based on that. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but I'd like to start cleaning them up when I run across them (I've been going with the lowercase version, but am not sure this is correct, looking at a few of the pages), to keep it consistent throughout the site. Thanks.  :) --Stevehim 11:57, 7 December 2008 (EST)

  • They're not proper nouns, they're descriptions of the future that we've assigned for the purposes of naming articles and organizing which future is which. We should avoid using the fan-created names in articles whenever possible: "In a possible future, Peter has a scar" is much better than "In the explosion future, Peter has a scar." As well, if we ever do have to use the name we've assigned (like on disambig pages or when we have to distinguish between two futures), we should use scare quotes. Matt is a douchebag in the "explosion future", but not in the "exposed future". Hope that helps...and thanks for being willing to help clean that up! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 14:00, 7 December 2008 (EST)
    • Thanks. Actually, I had another quick question. When listing people as deceased, are we supposed to italicize the word as in this infobox, or not, as in this one? And do we use the same rule when it's not in an infobox, as it is here? Thanks again. --Stevehim 03:21, 9 December 2008 (EST)
      • In general, I don't think we've been italicizing the word "deceased" in infoboxes. Every character page I'm looking at lists the word "deceased" without italics (like next to Simone's name on Charles Deveaux's page, or next to Elle's parents' names on Elle Bishop). For ease, let's not italicize the word "deceased" anywhere. Good catch! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 12:55, 9 December 2008 (EST)

My Foot Injury

  • Ryan, what do you mean foot fetishes? LOL XD [1]

Its actually real, I did have an injury, and I can't move my whole left leg for a whole week from now, I need to recover...  :( unlucky me... -I was gonna use the pic to make a page in my userpage, to compare it to Claire's injury lolz (I just can't be bother doing it right now :) ) --NiveKJ13 15:13, 7 December 2008 (EST)

bit of help

hey, just wanted to ask you a question. if i wanted to make all of the rows on this collapsible, how would i do it? only because the help page confuses me. thanks. - Tristan0709 18:19, 7 December 2008 (EST)

  • Okay, here goes. It's actually not too difficult to do, you just have to sift through some technical mumbo jumbo to "get" it. Let me see if I can explain...

Basically, you have to put each row (or really, it's not the whole row, but two columns from each row) into a collapsible table. Keep in mind that the tables below won't look exactly right because I'm not adding in all the information to make the full navbar--just the information you need to change. Right now you have this:

style="font-size:11px; text-align: center; background-color:#CCD5F4"|Volume One
colspan="2" style="font-size:11px; text-align: left; background-color:#ebebff"|
Genesis •
<a bunch of links> •
How to Stop an Exploding Man

...which gives you this:

Volume One

Genesis • <a bunch of links> • How to Stop an Exploding Man

You need to add a collapsible table around the links you want collapsed. You also need to add a heading (which is denoted by an exclamation point, and it's mandatory for collapsed tables) and all the formatting (the blue background etc.) to the collapsed table. I also add a width=100% so that the collapsible part will reach all the way across the navbar when it's collapsed. It doesn't do much difference here, but play around with it and see how it changes things. Anyway, you're going to change the above to this:

style="font-size:11px; text-align: center; background-color:#CCD5F4"|Volume One

click "show" to reveal links

Genesis •
<a bunch of links> •
How to Stop an Exploding Man

...which will give you this:

Volume One

Notice the table within a table. I made the above change to one section of your navbar so you can check out exactly what I changed. Click this link to see the changes. The changes I made are in red. I'll let you make the other changes so it's a good learning opportunity for you. If you have other questions, let me know. Mess

I added a theory to Nathan's theory page, but I accidently messed it up and I don't know what I've done wrong. Can you help me with this? :)

  • You just accidentally removed the closing tag for the table ( |} ). I put it back and the table's fixed now. (Admin 11:49, 8 December 2008 (EST))

Another mess

Ryan, Can you take a look at this userpage, and see why it is doing the weird trascripting link in the See Also section at the bottom? User:CmdrCash/New_Main_Page. The page is set to not allow editing, so I can't figure out why it is doing what it is doing, but somehow it seems to be involing the Seealsotranscripts template against the userpage; which it shouldn't be doing. It is also causing this userpage to appear in the list of episodes here: User:HiroDynoSlayer/List of Transcripts, where it doesn't belong. Also, I'd like to move that Transcripts page off of my userspace into the mainspace if you think that would be OK. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/8/2008 13:42 (EST)

  • The page transcludes Episode:Nothing to Hide, so anything on that episode page is shown on the user page. That means the transcript template is used too. Since the transcript template uses PAGENAME, it uses the user page's pagename. I simply noincluded the template on the episode page, and now it should be fine. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 13:50, 8 December 2008 (EST)
  • I don't think it's a good idea to move the list of transcripts page out of the user namespace. See User talk:HiroDynoSlayer/List of Transcripts. If you want it in my namespace, that's fine, but since it's not about Heroes, I don't think it belongs in the main namespace. :( -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 14:04, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Eclipse vs Petrelli

We already know what he's here for after seeing his "funny" invisibility stunt. Why not just have him banned right now to get it over with?--Citizen 13:52, 8 December 2008 (EST)

  • We've had people in the past come here and do some silly things before getting their act together and even becoming very productive members of the community. We try to give people the benefit of the doubt except in cases of extreme vandalism. (Admin 13:54, 8 December 2008 (EST))
    • Some people come to this site and think it's a RPG or a site where silliness is allowed--especially when their friends are making silly user pages that resemble RPG pages. If their silliness creeps into the main site, then they need to be warned. If it continues, then action can be taken. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Citizen! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 13:57, 8 December 2008 (EST)
      • I'm sorry, then, because I think I'm going to refrain from contributing to the wiki. Haven't you noticed that in the last few weeks, Heroes Wiki has been nothing but people joining and vandalizing the pages, creating multiple accounts and making terrible and offensive subpages? Highly a motivator for people who want the wiki to thrive. And it's not "silly", it's plain stupid. This was great and all during the Summer and the whole of 2007, but I just don't want these people to "kill" the wiki like that anymore. I'm out, guys.--Citizen 13:59, 8 December 2008 (EST)
        • Citizen, you're a strong editor, and I sure hope you don't let silly--or even stupid--edits by a few yahoos to determine whether or not you edit the wiki. Believe me, there are a select few I have on my watchlist, and I'm just waiting for one more wrong edit. But it really is important for us to give the benefit of the doubt. I can name at least one person who used to make edits that were a lot worse than that who is now a patroller. It sounds cliche, but sometimes all a person needs is some correcting and instructing. I hope you reconsider and don't let the actions of others determine your choices.... -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 14:04, 8 December 2008 (EST)
        • Can I just add... Didn't Gabriel Bishop (sorry to bring him into this) say that one of my other accounts kept on editing his user page and now he's editing mine! Can someone do something about it? I will change the picture back but can someone ban Gabriel Bishop or something? -- User:Eclipse vs Petrelli 19:26 (UK time), 9 December 2008 (EST)
          • To be honest, EvP, I'm getting a little tired of the issues that are being brought to me in regards to multiple accounts, "stupid" edits, and people editing each other's user pages. You shouldn't have more than one account--there's no need for it. You have no reason to edit another person's user pages--there's no rule against it, but if it's causing problems, I can make a rule for you, and that rule will be to not edit any user pages that are not your own. I suggest you choose one user page and abandon the others. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 16:55, 9 December 2008 (EST)

Watching

Hi Ryan, can I just ask, how would I know if someone is watching me? Coz I have a feeling somebody is spying me and my edits, and keeps on counteracting with it... --NiveKJ13 18:57, 8 December 2008 (EST)

  • You can see every edit made in the wikia at recent changes. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:57, 8 December 2008 (EST)
    • That's right. All edits made to the wiki can be seen at special:recentchanges. I watch your edits just as much as I watch anybody else's. It's called patrolling. A person's specific edits can be seen at their contributions page (for instance, Special:Contributions/NiveKJ13). I would actually encourage all editors to watch each other's edits. That way we all make sure all edits are quality and we've got lots of pairs of eyes making sure we're right on track. There is no way to know if one particular person is watching you, though. However, if you feel that somebody is targeting you and making unfair edits, you can let me know. If you would prefer to speak with me privately, my email address is ryangibsonstewart at heroeswiki dot com. However, I should say that a look through some of your edits and the edits of others doesn't show any maliciousness on anybody's part. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 20:23, 8 December 2008 (EST)
    • Aaahh.ok. LOL I've juz haven't known about the "recent pages" till now. Maybe thats why when I edit, its either being removed, edited etc. LOL, I felt like being watched. XD Tnx btw... NiveKJ13 11:09, 9 December 2008

Spaces

Why is that most articles have double spaces after a full stop? I never quite understood that. There's no need to have two spaces. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 09:51, 9 December 2008 (EST)

  • No, there's no need at all. Luckily, the wiki automatically makes it a single space. You can add all the space you want, and it still formats it the same. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 12:51, 9 December 2008 (EST)
    • Please, don't do that again, one my pet peeves is to leave everything as tidy as possible, I lost count of how many pages I skimmed through correcting double spaces, even in the edit window. If you check my edits in theory pages, you'll see that most of them are about formatting. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 13:45, 9 December 2008 (EST)
  • Are you referring to two spaces at the end of a sentence? You know, that's how I've always typed and I actually thought it was proper grammar when typing. I think it may have been the old-fashioned way back when there were typewriters, but someone must have taught me to use two spaces when I was younger. I'm not about to change, but now that you mention it I'll research it so at least I don't try to correct other people when they don't use two. :) (Admin 17:44, 9 December 2008 (EST))
    • Yeah, in the wiki I always try to use one space after a sentence since it's rather pointless to use two as the wiki doesn't recognize it. It also takes up database space if every sentence is separated by two spaces, so I try and trim out the double spaces when I can. If we were to follow MLA or AP style, then two spaces would be correct, but since we have our own style the format I have been applying through most of the site has been to use only one. Perhaps using one space is also W3C standard, I don't recall.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:52, 9 December 2008 (EST)
    • See here for a FAQ on MLA format. Looks like it's less well-defined than it used to be. I first started typing up reports for school in 1987 probably. Things were different back then and double-space after a period was the norm. You're going to have to learn to bare with us old-schoolers. :) (Admin 17:54, 9 December 2008 (EST))
      • That's how I learned to type, too, Admin. (Birds of a feather...) But I switched over some time in college when I learned that either way is acceptable. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 18:40, 9 December 2008 (EST)

Can we please change Lightning already?

Pretty much everyone wants to change the name to Electrical manipulation, but only 3 people want to keep it. I know admin wanted to reach a consensus, but I don't think it's going to be unanimous anytime soon. Shouldn't the majority be considered before the minority? --Piemanmoo 01:53, 9 December 2008 (EST)

  • I agree with you. I don't think we should always go with a majority, but I think a super majority should be enough. However, that's not up to me. I'm an administrator, but we only have one beaurocrat here, and that's Admin. I defer to him in developing policies like that. If he would like my input, I'm willing to share, but I will not override a policy that's already in place... But I should also point out that I think the bigger issue is not the name of the power, but tweaking our naming conventions to place explicitly given canon names at the top, then explicitly given near canon names, then canon descriptions, then near canon descriptions. I mean, if Zhang Yang ever appeared in an episode and they described him only as the CEO of Yang Industries, we wouldn't change his name to "Yang Industries CEO" just because canon sources outrank near canon sources. More pertinently, if Walter appeared in an episode, but he was only known as "Mr. Smith", we would keep the name of the page as "Walter" or "Mr. Smith". We would use everything we know to make it "Walter Smith". But I digress... -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 12:51, 9 December 2008 (EST)

Apology

I wanted to apologize for the rash behavior and negativity I displayed a few days ago when I said I was leaving the wiki. I was just feeling frustrated because somebody was vandalizing the wiki that I, and many others, care for and put in hard work to make it the best Heroes site on the internet. I have reconsidered and decided that I won't let those morons get to me, and I'll continue contributing like before and aide you in reverting any unnecessary and ill-intended edits that people like EvP tend to make. That being said, I look forward to contributing again.--Citizen 19:45, 11 December 2008 (EST)

  • Glad to have you back. :) There's no need to worry. Troublemakers either clean their acts up or they get booted from the site. We've had plenty of troublemakers in the past... some have changed their ways, and others are no longer here. :) (Admin 19:51, 11 December 2008 (EST))
  • Thanks, Citizen. I think that's a very mature approach. Believe me, there are times that I throw my hands up and get very angry at...my computer screen. :) I sometimes have to sit back, relax, and remember that the Internet is not such serious business. And then I tell myself that I probably would have done the same stupid vandalism when I was twelve years old (or had the mindset of a twelve-year-old). But I know you're keeping an eye out, and there are some people who are pretty much holding that last straw over my about-to-break back. Welcome back--the wiki just sucked in a breath of strength from you. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 19:55, 11 December 2008 (EST)
  • I'm glad you guys agree with what I'm saying. Once again, I have to say I've been pretty PO'd the last few weeks because the Recent Changes started changing from smart and productive edits to MULTIPLE EDITS made on a whole bunch of crappy subpages. How do you think people would react to that? I'd like to read your thoughts on that. That being said, kudos for getting an interview with the writers of Destiny. Hope my queries get answered.--Citizen 20:14, 11 December 2008 (EST)
    • What hooked me on this wiki, believe it or not, was the Theory:Red page. Ridiculous, eh? (I think I still have some unsigned, unformatted, unbulleted comments on that talk page.) A lot of people like making the wiki sort of their own personal RPG. Cool, whatever floats your boat. I hate having to sift through those edits (and the theory edits, and the spoiler edits--which I don't like to see, but which I'm certainly not avoiding like the plague). I hate it even more when a person adds tons of red links and inappropriate categories to their user page, then people have to go get the mop bucket and clean it all up. But I guess that's the nature of the work, right? And Admin makes a great point--there are tons of people here who start by doing the user subpage thing, or the theory thing, or whatever. Even some who have had to be warned for what I can only imagine is editing while drunk. But most of those people either fade away, are blocked, or turn themselves around and become fantastic editors. It sucks to wade through that garbage, but we're all on different learning curves, and we're all at different levels. I wouldn't turn somebody away just because they don't make quality edits. Vandalism is one thing, priorities on subpages is another thing. Plus, I never want Heroes Wiki to become an "elitist" site like some other wiki sites, full of dense dicks. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 20:32, 11 December 2008 (EST)
    • Seeing that Sonic subpage had literally given me a terrible headache. How can people even ASSUME we'll make Heroes-unrelated articles just because they have them in their pages? I can't believe people can be so stupid by thinking that. The ironic thing is, the user didn't even use the link enhanced speed in the infobox.--Citizen 20:44, 11 December 2008 (EST)

New Character and Typos

Hi. Two things. First, I found this article that you can add to the HEROES NEWS column of the home page: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/12/john-glover-cas.html - It talks about the newest cast member of Heroes. And I also found an interview with Bryan Fuller: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/12/exclusive-bryan.html . Hopefully, you can use those. Second, I noticed that the title for the next episode is spelled 2 different ways throughout the website. "Duel" and "Dual". I assume it is supposed to be the former term, but whichever one it is, someone should change the incorrect terms (such as on the main page under "NEXT ON HEROES".) Thanks again for maintaining this awesome website. -Dan

  • Thanks, Dan. I'll hold off putting the John Glover article in the news section since it's a pretty big spoiler. As for the other article, I've already put it at Bryan Fuller#External Links. Is there somewhere else you think it should go? As for the spelling, I've seen it written a few different ways. Plus, it was changed from War to Duality to either Duel or Dual (which oddly enough, sound very similar, but are synonyms for the original titles!) I'm not really sure which spelling to go with, so maybe we should hold off until we see it on Monday? I don't know, what do you think? ... Thanks for the heads up and keeping me informed! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 13:59, 13 December 2008 (EST)
