There are many terms and acronyms used in Heroes and by the fan community. Reading about the series can be a daunting task for the beginner who doesn't know all these terms.

  • EDT — electronic data transception, the name used to describe Hana's power
  • EM — Exploding Man, a fan-name for the person who supposedly explodes on November 8th
  • EMP — electromagnetic pulse, when hard radiation interacts with matter to release electrons, causing surges that disable electronic systems
  • Evolved Humans — a term to indicate all characters in Heroes who exhibit supernatural powers
  • Evolvie — shorthand for evolved human

  • IDF — Israeli Defense Forces, the unit Hana wanted to join, but was denied admittance by an IDF enlisting officer
  • Ikin — Niki backwards, used by fans to refer to Niki's alter-ego Jessica before her name was known

  • OGL — One Giant Leap
  • OFL -- "Our Fearless Leader", in reference to Tim Kring
  • OWI — Organization Without Initials, another fan-created term for the The Company based on its first reference as HRG/Mr. Bennet not belonging to "any organization with initials" like the CIA or the NSA

  • RHA — Red-Headed Agent, a name initially used by fans for Elisa Thayer before her name was known

  • S1 -- Season One
  • S2 -- Season Two
  • SED — "spooky Euro dude", used to describe The Haitian
  • SGS — Super-Genome Symbol, a fan-created name for the symbol that appears frequently within the show
  • sic — a Latin word meaning "thus", "so", or "just as that", used to indicate that an incorrect or unusual spelling is a verbatim reproduction of the quoted original
  • STCSTW -- Save The Cheerleader, Save The World
