| Ability to: | Manipulation and/or generation of electrostatic energy |
Electromagnetism is the ability to create and direct electrical arcs as well as levitate using electromagnetic repulsion.
Characters
- An agent in a possible future has this ability.
- A dying patient in a New York City hospital has this ability.
- In the possible future, Peter Petrelli absorbs this ability from the agent.
- Peter has absorbed this ability from an unknown individual.
Limits
Users of this power can generate electrical arcs between themselves and other people or objects within a range of at least a few meters. The amount of current that such arcs can carry is not known. Users of the power are not harmed by electrical currents that they create themselves; it is not clear whether this power gives resistance to electrical current from other sources.
The agent who possesses this power can levitate himself at least a few inches above the ground. How high he can levitate and how fast he can propel himself are not known.
Peter can give off small bursts from his hands, disabling and sending individuals back with force.
Examples
- The agent generates an electromagnetic field that allows him to levitate a few inches above the ground. (Walls, Part 1)
- The agent discharges electrical arcs into Peter. He also propels himself off the ground while pursuing Niki. (Walls, Part 2)
- Peter mimics the power and uses electrical arcs against Matt Parkman's agents. (Walls, Part 2)
- A dying patient exhibits this power at a New York City hospital. (Blackout, Part 1)
- The patient erupts in an arc, which stops a Primatech agent from advancing. (Blackout, Part 2)
- The patient uses the power while stalled on the side of the road. (Blackout, Part 2)
- Peter, while handcuffed, sends Tuko back with a blue burst. (Four Months Later)
- Peter disables an Irish thug at the Wandering Rocks and sends him back a few feet. (Lizards)
- Peter easily calls lightning forth, when saying Caitlin's name. (Petrified Lightning)
Notes
- In a forum post, writer Mark Sable called the power that the dying patient has "electrical energy". It is unclear if the dying patient has any magnetic aspects to his power, but it is clear that the agent with electromagnetism does.
- Peter describes the ability as "sparks" from his hand.
- CBR reveals in its Season 2, Week 2 Q&A, that Peter acquired electromagnetism from a female during the four month period since (How to Stop an Exploding Man).
