Power mimicry is the ability to duplicate the superhuman abilities of other evolved humans.
Characters
Peter Petrelli is the only character known to have this ability.
Limits
The details of the conditions under which Peter's power mimicry occurs are not well known.
Peter apparently needs to be close to another evolved human to duplicate his or her abilities. Physical contact apparently isn't necessary, but he has not clearly duplicated the abilities of anyone more than a few feet away.
How long he needs to be close is uncertain. He has had at least a brief conversation (or time for one) with everyone whose abilities he has clearly duplicated.
Examples
- Peter duplicates his brother Nathan's ability to fly. (Don't Look Back)
- Peter duplicates Isaac's ability to paint the future. (Hiros)
- Peter duplicates Claire's ability to heal the fatal injuries he received in a long fall. (Homecoming)
- Peter duplicates Matt's telepathic ability, causing a disturbing feedback loop between them. (Fallout)
Peter may or may not have duplicated the abilties of:
- Future Hiro; Peter was able to communicate with Hiro when he stopped time, and is at this point the only person Future Hiro has visited and spoken to. Whether this was Peter's or Hiro's doing is unclear. (Collision, Hiros)
- Sylar; in an interview with the writers, it was suggested that Sylar's inability to actually hit Peter with the locker doors may indicate Peter deflected them. (Homecoming)
