Electromagnetism is the ability to create and direct electrical arcs as well as levitate using electromagnetic repulsion.
Characters
- A dying patient in a New York City hospital has this ability.
- Elle has this ability.
- Peter has absorbed this ability from an unknown individual, although the fact that Elle is searching for him suggests she may be the source.
- An agent in a possible future has this ability.
- In the possible future, Peter Petrelli absorbs this ability from the agent.
Limits
Users of this power can generate electrical arcs between themselves and other people or objects within a range of at least a few meters. The amount of current that such arcs can carry is not known. Users of the power are not harmed by electrical currents that they create themselves; it is not clear whether this power gives resistance to electrical current from other sources.
Future DHS Agent
The agent who possesses this power can levitate himself at least a few inches above the ground. How high he can levitate and how fast he can propel himself are not known. He can throw electric arcs that incapacitate people they strike.
Teenage Patient
The teenage patient releases uncontrolled electrical arcs and electromagnetic pulses at unpredictable intervals. He appears to absorb energy from nearby electrical systems and release it whenever the charge reaches an unspecified threshold.
Peter Petrelli
Peter can throw bolts from his hands capable of knocking people they strike unconscious.
Elle
Elle has great control over her power. She is able to adjust the strength and power of the electrical arcs she generates, such as creating a small arc to weld and seal a lock, or a massive surge, sufficient to kill.
Selected Examples
- An agent generates an electromagnetic field that allows him to levitate a few inches above the ground. (Walls, Part 1)
- A dying patient exhibits this power at a New York City hospital. (Blackout, Part 1)
- Peter, while handcuffed, sends Tuko back with a blue burst. (Four Months Later)
- Peter disables one of McSorley's thugs at the Wandering Rocks and sends him back a few feet. (Lizards)
- Peter easily calls lightning forth, when saying Caitlin's name. (Petrified Lightning)
- Elle kills Ricky using an intense bolt of blue lightning. (Fight or Flight)
Notes
- In a forum post, writer Mark Sable called the power that the dying patient has "electrical energy". It is unclear if the dying patient has any magnetic aspects to his power, but it is clear that the agent with electromagnetism does.
- Peter describes the ability as "sparks" from his hand.
Gallery
-
At the Moab Federal Penitentiary, an agent produces electricity.
-
He attempts to end his life.
-
Peter shocks McSorley's thug.
-
Elle idly throws sparks at a shipping container.
-
Elle arc-welds the lock of Wandering Rocks Pub.
