| Examples of mental manipulation | |
Mental manipulation is the ability to manipulate others' minds, causing them to lose memories or be prevented from using mental powers.
Characters
The Haitian is the only character known to have this ability.
Limits
The Haitian can use this ability selectively to remove memories of specific events or people. The range at which he can do so is unknown; he may need to touch the subject to remove memories.
The Haitian can interfere with at least some of the powers of other evolved humans. So far, there is no evidence that he can block powers that do not affect other people's minds. This power works at a distance and does not require a line of sight; it may even be a passive power (one that is constantly active without concentration or effort).
Sylar became unconcious when the Haitian grabbed him in Homecoming. It's not clear whether this event was related to his mental manipulation powers.
Examples
- The Haitian mostly blocked Matt's telepathy. (One Giant Leap, Collision, Fallout)
- Though he is with a detained Nathan Petrelli, the Haitian is unable to prevent Nathan from flying away. (Hiros)
- The Haitian erased Brody Mitchum's memory. (Hiros)
- The Haitian erased parts of Theodore Sprague's memories. (Seven Minutes to Midnight)
- Sylar was unable to use his telekinesis in the presence of the Haitian (though Eden was able to use her power). (Homecoming)
- The Haitian was able to entirely block Eden's power of suggestion (Six Months Ago)
- The Haitian erases parts of Zach's and Lyle's memories. He mentions that he has erased Sandra Bennet's memories "so many times". (Fallout)
