Maya's power is an as-yet unnamed ability to kill people in her vicinity.
Characters
- Maya is the only character known to have this ability.
Limits
When distressed, Maya secretes a black liquid from her eyes. People near her when she manifests these symptoms rapidly become ill and die, also secreting black liquid from their eyes. The maximum range of this effect is not yet known.
Maya appears to have little, if any, control over her ability.
Alejandro's ability can negate this power and even reverse the effects on victims if applied quickly enough.

- Maya kills many inhabitants of a small Central American town. (Maya y Alejandro)
- Maya kills a group of coyotes. (Four Months Later).
- Maya's ability affects her and Alejandro's guide across the border, but she is revived by Alejandro. (Lizards).
- Maya's ability affects two police officers and Derek to release her brother, who later revives them. (Kindred)
- Maya's ability affects Sylar after he tells her that Derek called the police on them. Sylar's eyes blacken, but Alejandro is able to quickly neutralize the effects of her ability. (The Kindness of Strangers)
- Sylar persuades Maya to use her ability to kill the U.S. Border Patrol. (The Line)
