| Ability to: | Alter the space-time continuum |
| Examples of space-time manipulation | |
Space-time manipulation is the ability to alter the space-time continuum, including:
- Chronokinesis (slowing down, speeding up, or stopping time)
- Time travel (moving through time)
- Teleportation (moving instantaneously through space)
Characters
Hiro Nakamura is the only known character to have this ability.
Limits
All of Hiro's space-time manipulation abilities require active concentration.
Hiro can apparently stop time, causing the rest of the world to freeze while he can still move. When time is frozen this way, Hiro can still interact with objects and even people without them being unfrozen or aware of his activities. Exactly how this ability works is unclear: he may simply be making himself move far faster than everything else.
Hiro can teleport himself through space instantaneously. Such teleports can cover at least intercontinental distances.
Hiro can move himself through time into the future or the past. If moving into the past, he can alter history, but he apparently cannot alter history in such a way that he would eliminate his original cause for going into the past.
Examples
- Hiro made the second hand on his clock go back one second. (Genesis)
- Hiro may have made a subway late. (Genesis)
- Hiro may have teleported himself from the seating area to the ladies' room of a karaoke bar. (Genesis)
- Hiro teleported himself from Tokyo to New York City, arriving five weeks in the future. He later teleported himself back, narrowly avoiding a huge explosion. (Genesis, Don't Look Back)
- Hiro stopped time to rescue a young girl from a traffic accident. (One Giant Leap)
- Hiro stopped time to help Ando cheat at cards at Montecito Casino (Collision)
- Hiro stopped time to save D.L. Hawkins and an unnamed passenger from the explosion of a car. (Nothing to Hide)
- Hiro traveled six months into the past to try to save Charlie Andrews. (Seven Minutes to Midnight, Six Months Ago)
- Hiro stops time to get Charlie a bouquet of flowers. (Six Months Ago)
- Hiro stops time to fill Charlies order at the Burnt Toast Cafe. (Six Months Ago)
- Hiro manipulates time and space to bring Charlie a Japanese newspaper. (Six Months Ago)
- Hiro stops time to fill the diner with origami cranes. (Six Months Ago)
- Hiro accidentally traveled six months back to the future and to Japan. (Six Months Ago)
- Future Hiro traveled back to the past from an unspecified future, stopped time, spoke with Peter Petrelli, and tried to avoid a rift. (Collision, Hiros)
Hiro was unable to control space-time:
- when Ando and he were in the bathroom and Jessica wreaked havoc. (Better Halves)
- when he teleported "too far". (Six Months Ago)
- when he accidentally teleported while kissing Charlie. (Six Months Ago)
- when he was unable to leave the roof of Yamagato Industries. (Six Months Ago)
