The Haitian can use this ability selectively to remove memories of specific events or people. Also, he messes with Officer Parkman's ability to read minds as well as other of the heroes abilities. He often does so under the direction of Mr. Bennet. The range is not known exactly, but Matt Parkman was parked in the parking lot outside of the paper factory and was able to read the women FBI agents thought about how she "thought he was cute". The Haitian immediatley after that walked out of the building with Mr. Bennet and at that point Parkman's mindreading becomes static and he can only pick up the word "Sylar". The Haitian probably has a range of about 150 yards, or his range may be inhibited by the factories walls. He also probably needs to touch the subject to remove memories, because ever time he has removed memories on the camera, he has been touching the subject.

The Haitian can interfere with at least some of the powers of other evolved humans. So far, there is no evidence that he can block powers that do not affect other people's minds. This power works at a distance and does not require a line of sight; it may even be a passive power (one that is constantly active without concentration or effort).

Mental manipulation

The Haitian suppresses Eden's power
Held by: The Haitian
Ability to: Manipulate others' minds
Examples of mental manipulation

Mental manipulation is the ability to manipulate others' minds, causing them to lose memories or be prevented from using mental powers.

Characters

The Haitian is the only character known to have this ability.

Limits

The Haitian can use this ability selectively to remove memories of specific events or people. He often does so under the direction of Mr. Bennet. The range at which he can do so is unknown; it appears he needs to touch the subject to remove memories.

The Haitian can interfere with at least some of the powers of other evolved humans. So far, there is no evidence that he can block powers that do not affect other people's minds. This power works at a distance and does not require a line of sight; it may even be a passive power (one that is constantly active without concentration or effort) He has been able to mostly inhibit Matt Parkman's telepathy at a fairly significant range (across the parking lot of the Primatech Paper Co.), and when he was possibly unaware of Matt's presence.

Sylar became unconscious when the Haitian grabbed him in Homecoming. It's not clear whether this event was related to his mental manipulation powers or was simply in response to Eden's suggestion to sleep.

Erasing memories has been associated with headaches and blackouts (as in the cases of Matt Parkman and Theodore Sprague).

The Haitian said that he has been sent to Sandra Bennet "so many times". Sandra's perceived flaky and somewhat loony demeanor may be a result of having so much of her memory modified.

By his own admission, the Haitian cannot restore a memory that he has deleted.

Examples

Notes

 • Though he is with a detained Nathan Petrelli, the Haitian is unable to prevent Nathan from flying away. (Hiros)
 • In an interview, writer and co-producer Aron Coleite said in regards to the Haitian's powers, "I think that it’s more of an on-and-off thing. He has very good control of his ability. I think that he’s able to turn it on and off. You’ll find out that the Haitian has been using his ability for a while. He’s adept at using his ability."
 • The Haitian's power may have the ability to knock out individuals. After an encounter with the Haitian, Matt, Ted, Sylar, and Nathan were all subdued in some way or another. However, in each case, an alternate explanation was given (for instance, Mr. Bennet told Matt that he was drugged). Ultimately, not enough evidence is given to draw a conclusion as to the full extent of the Haitian's powers.
