Ability void

Gabriel can't use his power near Obadiah
Held by: Obadiah Gray
Ability to: render abilities void in presence

Ability void is the ability to be unaffected by any ability, as if an ability being used in relation to the holder simply does not exist or is rendered void.

Characters

Limits

Any ability used to directly effect Obadiah, or used within a close range of proximity to him, doesn't work. It acts as if the ability simply doesn't exist. If a ranged ability comes from a distance into the area of Obadiah, it will simple cease to exist. This ability seems to be an innate ability of Obadiah that is passive. He does not need to concentrate to make it occur, nor does he have to be conscious. Any ability that could effect him in any way, simple can't and doesn't. It is yet unknown if Obadiah can concentrate to increase or change his area of effect.

About

Unaired scenes

As children, when Obadiah and Gabriel would visit their uncle Samson Gray's taxidermy shop, Samson was unable to sedate live animals, nor float stuffed animals around the room when Obadiah was present.

Later as young adults working in their father Martin's watch shop, Gabriel could never call upon his amazing intuitive aptitude to diagnose and correct problems with watches and clocks whenever Obadiah was nearby. They eventually chose to work different shifts, to avoid this pitfall.

Homecoming

When Gray and Sons watch shop was first visited by Brian Davis, Brian was unable to manifest telekinesis while in Obadiah's presence.

Notes

  • This ability was inspired by Oba and Jennsen Raul, from Terry Goodkind's epic The Sword of Truth Sword of Truth series, which introduced two siblings who were complete magical ability voids in contrast to their otherwise extremely powerful siblings. They were also called 'holes in the world' in that genre.
